Advanced formatting options in GitLaw Editor
The GitLaw Editor offers several advanced tools to help you create flexible, reusable, and well-structured legal documents. These features make collaboration smoother and ensure your drafts stay consistent throughout.
Smart Fields
Use smart fields to mark fillable information such as names, addresses, dates, or amounts. Once defined, these fields can be filled once and reused throughout the document 🔁
Smart fields are also recognized by the Agent, allowing it to update or populate values automatically when drafting or reviewing your contract.
👉 You can access all smart fields using the top right menu and going to Fields.

Fill-In Sections
Some documents require one-time details – for example, a description of services, list of deliverables, or event information.
Fill-in sections highlight these areas so they stand out during drafting and review. They act as visual placeholders to ensure no key details are missed.
Unlike smart fields, fill-in sections aren’t reusable – each must be completed individually within that document.

Mark as Optional
Legal templates often contain alternative or conditional language. You can mark a paragraph as optional, allowing it to be easily included or excluded when generating the final version of the document.

Mark Selection as Optional
Instead of marking a whole paragraph, you can mark a specific phrase or sentence as optional. This is especially useful when you want to include optional text within a table cell or within a longer paragraph. Just select the desired text and use Mark selection as Optional option.
Mark as Clause
Use Mark as Clause to identify a paragraph (or group of paragraphs) as a clause. This automatically adds it to the Clauses tab, allowing a quick overview of your contract’s structure and easy navigation between sections.

Mark as Help Text
Help text provides guidance or notes for the drafter or reviewer. It’s visible during editing but not included in exported versions.
Use this to explain context, drafting intent, or internal comments without affecting the final document.

Mark Selection as Help Text
You can also mark only a phrase or sentence as help text rather than a full paragraph. This is commonly used inside tables or specific sections where selective guidance is helpful. Just select the desired text and use Mark selection as Help Text option💡
