Offer Letter (US) by OLL
This employment offer letter establishes the initial terms of hire for US-based employees, including base pay, start date, and job duties. It features specialized options for at-will employment in most states or statutory probationary periods specifically for Montana hires.
OFFER LETTER
(EMPLOYMENT OFFER - UNITED STATES)
Note: This letter is for a standard hire: a role with no severance package, no non-compete inside the letter, and confidentiality handled by a separate enclosed agreement. For an executive hire, a commission-heavy sales role, relocation, or a role that needs a non-compete or a change-in-control package, use the Employment Agreement (US) template instead; those terms need more structure than a letter gives. Once the candidate countersigns, this letter is a binding agreement, not a courtesy document.

Re: Offer of Employment
Dear [candidate first name],
[company legal name], a [entity type (corporation, llc, or other)] organized under the laws of [state of organization] (the Company), is pleased to offer you employment on the terms set out in this letter. When you countersign this letter, it becomes a binding agreement between you and the Company. This letter, Exhibit A, and the documents listed in Section 8 together contain the terms of your employment.
1. POSITION AND WORK LOCATION
1.1 Position. Your position will be [job title], reporting to [manager name and title] or to such other person as the Company designates. You will perform the duties customary for that position and other reasonable duties consistent with your skills that the Company assigns, diligently and in good faith. If your position is full-time, you will devote your full working time to the Company, and you will not take on outside work that competes or conflicts with the Company's business without its prior written approval. The Company may change your duties, title, or reporting line as its business requires.
1.2 Work location. Your primary work location will be [primary work location (office address or remote work state)], subject to business travel as your duties reasonably require. If you work remotely, you must maintain a workspace that meets the Company's security and confidentiality requirements. You may not change the state from which you primarily work without the Company's prior written approval, because a change of state alters payroll, tax, and legal compliance obligations.
1.3 Status and schedule. This is a [full-time or part-time] position. Your regular schedule will be [regular schedule (e.g. monday to friday, 9am to 5pm)]. The Company may adjust your schedule from time to time as the business reasonably requires, subject to applicable law.
Note: The state where the employee primarily works drives almost everything else in this letter: payroll withholding, the exempt salary floor, the written pay notice at hire, paid sick leave, and whether a non-compete can be used at all. Pick one primary work state even for a remote hire; a remote-anywhere arrangement leaves the Company unable to run payroll and notices correctly. Moving states later changes those obligations, which is why clause 1.2 asks for written approval first.

It depends on the situation. Templates work well for routine business agreements. For anything involving significant money, complex IP, employment, or areas you're unsure about, it's worth getting professional advice before you sign. GitLaw provides templates and tools, not legal advice.
