About this template
What is this template?
This document is a formal contract between a writer and a publishing company for the commercial production of a book. It contains specific financial penalties for author-requested revisions and sets a 10-day deadline for returning printer proofs. It is not an employment contract or a work-for-hire agreement.
When should you use it?
Use this template when a completed or planned manuscript is being licensed to a commercial press for a royalty-based return. Use a Ghostwriting Agreement instead if the author is being paid a flat fee and will not retain the copyright.

Mostly US and UK law. Some templates use general commercial terms that work across jurisdictions, and many note which law they're written for.
It depends on the situation. Templates work well for routine business agreements. For anything involving significant money, complex IP, employment, or areas you're unsure about, it's worth getting professional advice before you sign. GitLaw provides templates and tools, not legal advice.
