I herewith annex the Vakalatnama and my ID card for your reference.

It is therefore, most humbly, requested that the signature of the said Accused be obtained on the said enclosed Vakalatnama and be returned the same to the bearer of the copy of this letter.

Thanking you.

About this template

What is this template?

This is a formal administrative request sent by a legal professional to prison authorities. It is not a court filing or a bail application but a necessary procedural step to establish the advocate-client relationship for a criminal case.

When should you use it?

Use this when a client is already in jail and you need their formal signature to appear on their behalf in court. Use a Memo of Appearance instead if the court allows temporary representation without a full Vakalatnama.

Who it's for

  • an Indian advocate seeking authorization to represent a client currently in judicial custody
  • legal practitioners in Mumbai requiring a signed Vakalatnama from an incarcerated accused person
